Chelsea Joy Handler is a New Jersey native born in Livingston on February 25, 1975. She was born the youngest in a large family. Handler's father was a used auto dealer, as was her mother was a housewife. Her mother immigrated from Germany to Germany to the United States as a young woman in the year 1958. Breast cancer was discovered in the year 1989. Handler died 10 years after battling cancer. Handler grew up in an Reform Judaism family. Her father was Jewish. Handler grew up in a safe area and had a happy childhood. When she was 19, Handler moved from the city of her birth to Los Angeles to pursue her acting profession. Handler worked as an actor in order to support herself. Handler aged at the age of 21 and decided to pursue stand-up comedy as a full-time occupation following her discovery of storytelling. At the beginning of her career Handler began her stand-up profession as part of the Oxygen network all-female cast for the hidden camera/comedy reality show on TV called Girls Behaving Poorly. The show ran between 2002 and 2005. Handler began appearing on various other programs, including Weekends at D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler is also a correspondent for The Tonight Show. Handler got her most famous break in 2006 when she took over hosting of E! The Chelsea Handler Program. The show ran for two seasons. Following the show, Handler performed on the Comedy Central's Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour in the United States. VH1, Comedy Central Premium Blend, HBO and Comedy Central have all broadcasted her stand-up shows. In 2010, she was tapped as host of the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. She became only the second woman to ever host VMAs after Roseanne Bar.
